Bad Weather proceedure ...when it snows.

On rare occasions, particularly in the winter, the weather can be so severe that getting to and from school becomes hazardous.

Bad weather by its nature is disruptive but please don't panic!

Decisions about closing the school and sending pupils home early are always difficult to make . We as a school need to gather reliable information before making a judgement. We check the weather reports, liaise with the junior school as well as speaking with other local schools and try to assess what is happening elsewhere in the area in order to make an informed decision in the interest of the children, their families and staff.

Here is our advice of what to do;

If there is severe weather overnight

If the weather deteriorates during the school day

SEVERE WEATHER OVERNIGHT

If the school has to be closed a message will be sent to parents via the school texting service as soon as the decision is made. A message will also be put on our website.

WEATHER DETERIORATION DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

The school will be closed early only in extreme cases. The decision to close the school will be made by the Headteacher and other senior colleagues. This will be done after gaining reliable information from weather reports, liaising with the junior school as well as other local schools and assessing what is happening in the local area.

Decisions about early closure will be communicated as soon as this is appropriate.

Parents will be informed via our texting service and we will also put a message on our school website. Local radio stations will also broadcast school closures.

The safety of ALL is paramount and school will be kept open until the last child is collected.

HOW CAN PARENT/CARERS HELP?

Always assume school is open if you do not receive a text, or a message via our website. Listen to the local radio early in the morning /throughout the day if the weather deteriorates. And please ONLY CALL SCHOOL IF YOU REALLY HAVE TO - calls in prevent calls out!
